State Police are warning Northern Michigan residents to be on alert after IRS scammers have been calling area residents threatening them.
According to reports:
"Even though tax season has wrapped up, people claiming to be from the IRS are still trying to scam people out of their money.
Michigan State Police is warning folks about callers claiming to be from the IRS. They order people to pay up, or suffer the consequences.\
"They're often threatened with jail, they're threatening with wage garnishment, if they're here on a visa or a green card, they're threatened with deportation. And the IRS isn't going to do that either," said Trooper Brett Nichols.
These callers aren't the IRS, and instead are scammers. Over the years they've scammed people all over the country out of millions of dollars."
